There are four museums, i.e. the Agricultural Museum of Menelaos Parlamas, the Lychnostatis Folk Art Museum, the Archaeological Museum of Malia, and the Argyrakeio War & Ethnological Museum. In addition, there are two famous aquariums: Thalassokosmos and Aquaworld.

Museums, Monuments, Archaeological sites:
The municipality is rich with archaeological sites which are identified by the following names: the Archaeological Site of Malia, Chrysolakos, the Archaeological Site of Amnissos, Nirou Mansion, the Archaeological Site of Kastri, and Armi.
The most famous site is the Minoan Palace of Malia. It is found in a beautiful location near the sea and, in terms of size, is the third largest Minoan palace after Knossos and Phaistos.
According to legend the palace of Malia was the residence of Sarpedon, the brother of Minos. In 1915 Joseph Hadjidakis began excavations in the harbour, and in 1921 the French School of Archaeology continued excavations in Chryssolakkos where the famous beautiful gold pendant with the bees was found. Currently, this item is the most important find from Malia.
